Glyndebourne

Balancing acoustics and architecture for a world-famous opera house

Stanhope’s expertise was given on a voluntary basis at first, before being selected to advise on the organisation of the entire development process at Glyndebourne.
Producing an economical design that could match the budget raised through donations was of paramount importance.
The project was awarded the British Construction Industry Building Award and a Civic Trust Award for its outstanding contribution to the quality of the environment in 1994, and the Financial Times Building of the Year Award in 1995.
This project was undertaken with Ove Arup & Partners, Arup Acoustics, and Bovis Construction.
