BFI Imax Cinema

Revitalising cinema on the South Bank

To create this iconic London cinema, Stanhope had to work to create a number of complex engineering solutions to minimise noise and vibrations.
Although the site is surrounded by traffic and has an underground line just four metres below, Stanhope created an upper structure placed on anti-vibration bearings. The glass building is a striking addition to Waterloo, with minimal disruption to the local environment.
This project was undertaken with Mace as construction manager and Anthony Hunt Associates as structural engineer.
