We offered our expertise to Glyndebourne Productions Ltd on a voluntary basis, running an architectural competition to select an architect and advising the organisation throughout the entire development process.
Funding for the project was raised through donations, so producing an economic design was of paramount importance. The tight budget meant the Opera House could not afford to close for more than one season.
The redevelopment produced a world-class venue with excellent acoustics and sightlines, as well as increased comfort for the audience, assisted by the installation of underseat cooling. Seating capacity was increased from 830 to 1,242, whilst still managing to retain the intimate quality of the original building.
