The area between Tower Bridge and London Bridge had lain dormant for a decade, hampered by an impractical masterplan.
We became involved on behalf of owner CIT, which acquired the site in 2000, producing a new masterplan that doubled the size of the scheme and made it economically feasible for the first time.
The site is now home to an exuberant mix of activity, including offices, a hotel, supermarket, health club, shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and an amphitheatre. The Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority were the first tenants to move into the prime district, with the opening of the landmark City Hall in July 2003. The strong layout knits together commercial space with the lively public realm, incorporating streets, a park, sculptures and performance area.
As well as developing the masterplan, we also secured planning permission for the 2 million sq ft development.
