Balancing effective development with archaeological discovery

The 12-storey 200,000 sq ft workspace involved working with a number of different restrictions, including the St Paul’s Heights Codes and archaeological digs, to create a challenging but exciting headquarters for Standard Chartered Bank.
The project included a 4-month excavation with the Museum of London Archaeology Service to explore the majority of the site, uncovering medieval footings of buildings as well as substantial Roman finds, some of which attracted worldwide interest.
The project was undertaken with Bovis Lend Lease as construction manager and Norman Disney & Young as services engineer.
