Walbrook Square EC4

A major redevelopment on this large City site will create a new retail destination and restore an ancient Mithras Temple for public viewing

The masterplan for this prime island site close to the Bank of England will see four office buildings developed, creating 1 million sq ft of floorspace.

Shops, cafes and restaurants will line a new public square and pedestrian streets, creating a buzzing new retail environment.  By re-opening a network of old City routes, we have ensured the scheme is permeable and engaged with its surroundings.  The development will also incorporate a new entrance to London Underground Bank Station (Waterloo and City Line platforms).

The Mithras Temple, which has occupied the site since about AD240, was uncovered in 1954 and was rebuilt in a new location to the west.  The redevelopment will restore the ancient Temple to its original location at Roman ground level - about 6m below current street level - with public access from the new square.

The building will be equiped with tri-generation (power, heating and cooling).
