Stevenage Town Centre Hertfordshire
Britain's first post-war New Town will be reinvigorated by the combination of new retail, leisure, residential and civic facilities
The regeneration plan will rejuvenate the town centre of Stevenage, increasing its competitiveness and taking advantage of its strategic location on easily accessible transport links from London.
New shopping streets will be created which connect to the town's existing roads and the town square. This additional shopping space will attract new retailers to Stevenage, offering greater choice to residents as well as increasing employment in the area. The improved retail offer will be complemented by new restaurants, leisure and community facilities.
To help realise the original vision for Stevenage as Britain's first pedestrianised town centre, the town's public spaces are being extended to create more permeable, connected areas. Public transport will be improved, with the inclusion of a new bus station to improve access to the town centre even further.
