New Mercury House WC1

Fast delivery to shell and core

New Mercury House was notable for the flexibility of its space and its speedy delivery.

The project took the lessons learned from earlier Stanhope projects in order to enable fast delivery of shell and core, allowing fit-out to begin early - in this case two months before practical completion of the developers' works.  We worked closely with the owner-occupier, Cable & Wireless, which purchased the building to provide new headquarters for its subsidiary Mercury Communications at an early stage of construction.

The seven-storey building is located in Red Lion Square, a Georgian public square that now supports both residential and commercial uses.  The square was renovated after close consultation with residents, whose input helped to develop the new design.
