A "future-proofed" building adjoining Sevenoaks Station to meet the needs of British Telecom's 24-hour mobile workforce
We worked with BT in Sevenoaks, near the M25, as part of the organisation's Workstyle 2000 initiative to create a mobile workforce.
Similar to the building we developed for the company in Brentwood, BT wanted its premises to be adaptable for other commercial uses should its operations change in future. This required a careful balancing of BT's specific needs with the creation of an adaptable product for the market.
Modern working trends were crucial to developing the design brief, as the offices had to be available to workers 24 hours a day. Rather than "owning" desks, BT wanted staff to access its ring of buildings around the M25 as and when needed, using any available desk and booking meeting space in advance. Our experience of working with BT on earlier projects also informed the design and the building features communal break-out spaces, open plan offices and meeting rooms.
We worked in close conjunction with the planning authority to resolve sensitive planning and highways issues and carried out extensive stakeholder consultation.
